downloading issue

Post by JimFlasch76 »

For the last few months, I've been unable to download anything off of this site. I keep getting the following error message (with Chrome & Mozilla):

Cannot download this file

Details:
SSL_read error 5

I use Windows 11 OS.

In the past few months the site recently switched to an anti web-scraper WAF (zdoom.org is using the exact same setup). The only way we can help you is if you give a little bit more information about your actual web browser and if you are using any external downloaders.

Floorp is based on Firefox, and for Internet Download Manager (IDM) to work with it, IDM has to be integrated with the browser so it can see the same cookies that the site sends to your browser.

When you visit the site, you first see a “bot check” (proof‑of‑work) page. This is there to stop automated scripts from hammering the server. After you pass this check, the site puts a special cookie in your browser that proves you are a real visitor, so you do not have to solve that check on every page.

IDM also needs to see that cookie, or it cannot prove to the site that it is acting on behalf of a real user. To let IDM read that cookie from Floorp, you can try installing this Firefox integration add‑on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... on-module/

If that extension works with Floorp, IDM should then be able to download files correctly. If it does not work, you will have to download files directly in the browser for now and temporarily turn off IDM for this site, because IDM is not able to read your “passed the bot check” cookie and the site treats it like a bot instead of a normal user.
