[fixed] Negative sized patches crash game...

Post by AFADoomer »

If a patch/image has a negative size, it generates an error mesage in ZDoom, but crashes in GZDoom, with no crash log.

This renders some mods, namely WolfenDoom unfinishable...

More info here...

Not that I'm disputing the nature of the bug, I'd just like to know - how is it that a patch can have a negative size?

It can only happen if it is corrupt. Remember: Garbage in, garbage out.

So presumably an easy fix for an end user would be to create and load a PWAD on top of WolfenDoom with a legal sprite in it to replace the faulty one?

No. All sprites are loaded by the engine. Which WAD do I have to use to reproduce this error?

I just DL'd the Original missions and it seems to exhibit the problem. For me, GZDoom crashes as soon as I try to start a new game.

When playing with 96x, the console reports some of the player sprites as being wrong, and when fighting Hans Grosse I get on-screen messages about non-positive sprites when he attacks.

What's the file's name? I am not familiar with the WolfenDoom stuff.

It's 'original.wad'... Not available on the idgames site, I don't think...

This attached zipped .wad reproduces the bug... Just summon a baron of hell and wait for his firing state.
